A Club for the Misfits – The Story of Escola FC

This article is part of a SAFA Central series spotlighting teams across the league—new, rising, and established—bringing their stories, identities, and ambitions to the forefront.

Not every team starts with a plan. Some are built out of convenience, some out of ambition—but Escola FC was built out of circumstance.

Formed in 2025 across India and Bangladesh, Escola isn’t a project that was carefully designed from day one. It’s a team that came together when options ran out—when players didn’t fit elsewhere, when opportunities didn’t come, and when the only real choice left was to create something of their own.

Led by Shaggy and Knight Phoenix, Escola FC represents a different kind of journey in SAFA—one shaped by trial, error, and persistence.

From Setbacks to Something New

The journey of Escola FC begins with failure—and what came after it.

Shaggy’s early stint with Atletico de Kolkata didn’t go as planned. Performances dipped, results didn’t follow, and stepping away from the scene became necessary. But instead of leaving entirely, he took time to learn, reset, and return with a different perspective.

That return came in the most unexpected way.

A casual group formed through Reddit, playing for fun under the name “Chilli Chicken FC”—a reflection of shared interests as much as shared gameplay. It was never meant to be serious. Just a group of players unwinding, enjoying the game.

At the same time, Knight Phoenix was part of Carrington Utd, occasionally joining in for these relaxed sessions. But when Carrington faced a player shortage, the idea emerged—bring the entire group into a competitive setup.

What followed was chaotic.

Thrown into SAFA without full commitment or structure, Carrington Utd struggled. It wasn’t just about results—it was about mindset. Not everyone was ready for competitive play, and the season reflected that.

Soon after, Carrington disbanded.

And just like that, a group of players found themselves without a team, without direction—and without offers from other clubs.

So they built their own.

Escola FC was born—a place for players who didn’t quite fit elsewhere. The first recruit? Noolster. A name that would go on to become central to the team’s identity.

Aggression on the Pitch, Calm off It

If there’s one thing Escola FC guarantees, it’s entertainment.

Their playstyle is unapologetically aggressive. Attack-first, high-energy football that refuses to sit back. Whether you’re playing against them or just watching, one thing is certain—you won’t be bored.

But beyond tactics, what defines them is something simpler.

Friendship.

This isn’t a team driven by pressure or rigid systems. Players come in as trialists, but over time, they become part of something more relaxed—teammates who unwind together after work, balancing competition with a sense of ease.

That balance creates a unique environment.

Minimal stress. Maximum expression. A “Zen” experience—until they face top teams, where that calm can quickly turn into intensity.

Experience Without the Ego

Escola FC may present themselves as a laid-back group, but they’re far from inexperienced.

They’ve competed across multiple platforms—VPG Seasons 3 and 4, SAFA Season 4, and even FCTL (VPG Thailand League) along with its cup competitions. They’ve seen different styles, different levels, and different challenges.

And through it all, one thing has remained consistent—their approach.

Community first, competition second—but never ignoring the importance of results.

Because while they prioritize enjoyment, they’re also clear about one thing:

There’s no fun in losing.

Somewhere Between Building and Believing

Ask Escola FC where they stand, and the answer isn’t simple.

They’re building—but they’re also competing.

Squad consistency remains a challenge, with players balancing real-life commitments and availability. It’s a fluid system, one that requires constant adjustment. But within that uncertainty lies belief.

They know they’re not the finished product.

But they also know they’re not far off.

The aim? Keep improving, reduce the mistakes, and push higher than before. A top-table finish isn’t just ambition—it’s expectation, even if it comes with realism.

No Rivals, No Fear

When it comes to matchups, Escola FC keeps it simple.

They’re ready to face anyone.

There are no defined rivalries—partly because many past rivals have faded away—but also because this is a team that doesn’t rely on narratives to motivate itself. The focus remains internal.

Play well. Improve. Compete.

Everything else follows.

The Real Question

Escola FC didn’t start as a powerhouse.
They didn’t arrive with hype.
They weren’t handed a clear path.

They built one.

Now, with experience behind them and a stronger identity in place, this season becomes less about finding themselves—and more about showing where they actually stand.

Because at some point, every “project” stops being a story…

…and starts being judged on results.
